The eagerly anticipated new electric Volvo EX60 has received its world premiere boasting class-leading range figures and a series of technological breakthroughs.

With the EX-prefix denoting Volvo’s pure electric line of SUV models, the EX60 becomes the third zero emissions model to be added to its UK line-up and will slot between the smaller EX30/EX40 and larger EX90.

Similar in size to the XC60 – Volvo’s best-selling model globally – the EX60 will do battle with the new BMW iX3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC EQ in the premium electric SUV sector.

Arguably Volvo’s most important model for a generation, the EX60 has been developed as a brand-new model from the ground up. As such, it debuts a state-of-the-art SPA3 platform which is described as ‘software-defined’ and sees the EX60 contains a cell-to-body technology, which mounts the battery cells in the chassis floor, reducing complexity and weight.

From the outset, the EX60 bears all the hallmarks of other Volvo models in recent years, namely the clean and crisp lines that have become a signature of its most popular models like the XC60 and XC40.

Look closer, however, and the EX60 is brimming with fresh details, including a more sculpted front-end profile and more elaborate headlight arrangement.

Aerodynamics have also played a major role in how the EX60 looks. It helps explain the tapered c-pillar which incorporates the rear window and does away with the need for a conventional spoiler, while even something as simple as the door handles – which are tucked under the side windows – helps tidy wind deflecting clutter on the bodyshell.

Volvo EX60 Interior and Practicality

Inside, while the EX60 continues Volvo’s long-running theme of desirably minimalist looks - a trend that has since been emulated by dozens of other brands - it nonetheless debuts a new fresh design language for the manufacturer.

Notably, it is the first model from the manufacturer to feature a landscape-orientated central touchscreen, rather than portrait. It’s a small but significant adjustment that echoes a general re-organisation of Volvo’s approach to interior finish.

As such, the traditional instrument cluster has been ditched in favour of a small horizontal screen that displays necessary heads-up information, while the re-designed two-spoke ‘squircle’ (square-circle) steering wheel is also all-new.

Other new features include integrated Google Gemini AI and a new computing system called HuginCore, which is able to automatically keep the car as updated as it can possibly be using over-the-air technology.

Volvo EX60 Range and Performance

Arguably the most significant step forward for Volvo can be found under the skin, with both single and dual-motor models to be available.

Three electric powertrains will be offered, as denoted by a new naming structure. The entry-level single-motor, rear-wheel drive P6 will deliver a hefty 369bhp from an 86kWh battery to achieve 0-62mph in less than six seconds. Range is quoted at 384-miles.

Opt for the mid-range all-wheel drive, dual-motor P10 and you’ll get a 95kWh battery offering up to 409-miles of range and an increase in power to 503bhp.

Though not available from launch, the EX60 will eventually be offered in a flagship all-wheel drive, dual-motor P12 variant, which features a 117kWh battery – one of the largest to be offered across the industry.

With two e-motors, the Volvo EX60 P12 produces a whopping 671bhp and will be capable of travelling more than 500-miles before needing to be recharged, in what is class-leading range figures.

Representing a major step forward for electric automotive technology, the impressive figures have been made possible by the fresh way the EX60 has been developed using innovative cell-to-body technology, which better integrates battery cells into the vehicle’s architecture for improved results.

Beyond the class-leading range figures, the EX60 will also be able to accommodate either 370kW or 320kW DC fast-charging capability, which means it will be possible to add 200-miles of charge in just 10 minutes.

Volvo EX60 Cross Country

As well as revealing the EX60, Volvo also took the opportunity to unveil the Volvo EX60 Cross Country trim, which will be available exclusively in four-wheel drive.

It will also get exterior design modifications to echo its rugged potential with chunkier bumpers, re-profiled front and rear bumpers, dashes of stainless steel, unique wheel trims and a wider track.

The 2026 Volvo EX60 is due to reach Vertu Volvo dealerships this summer.
