The Toyota Aygo X Hybrid has been named as the latest winner of the Small Car of the Year at the annual What Car? Awards.
Launched in late 2025, the Aygo X Hybrid is the first model in the city car segment to be offered as a full hybrid, with Toyota utlising its extensive experience of working with hybrid technology to add an element of electrification to the smallest model in its range.
The addition of hybrid technology to the Aygo X means that the model is now capable of delivering more than 75mpg, whilst it also has the lowest emissions of any non-plug-in model currently on sale in the UK.
“Officially, the Toyota Aygo X Hybrid averages almost 75mpg, but our experience suggests that, if anything, this figure is conservative in stop-start traffic,” What Car? Editor Steve Huntingford said.
“It’s also a surprisingly nippy car, feeling perfectly at home on the motorway. Meanwhile, the linear power delivery makes smooth driving a cinch.
“The fantastic performance of the Aygo X in the latest What Car? Reliability Survey only adds to its appeal, with it achieving a 99.7% dependability rating.”
Widely regarded as being ‘in a class of its own’, the Aygo X Hybrid is available in four different trim levels - Icon, Design, Excel and GR Sport – and starts at little over £21,000.
