The ground-breaking Nissan Qashqai has reached another milestone by surpassing four million sales in Europe since its launch.
One of the biggest success stories in Nissan’s long history, the Qashqai nameplate was introduced in 2006 on a model that was an evolution of the conventional small family hatchback with its SUV-like proportions and ride-height.
The approach led to the coinage of the term small SUV, with the Qashqai’s instant popularity across Europe triggering a litany of rivals to develop their own models around its format.
Since then, the SUV market has boomed in terms of numbers and sales, but the Qashqai – despite the increase in direct competitors – has remained enduringly popular throughout the last 15 years.
In the UK alone, the Qashqai has been among the top ten best sellers for well over a decade now, while it can claim to have won more than 110 international awards, including 20 Car of the Year accolades.
Currently in its third-generation guise, the Qashqai – which is built at Nissan’s UK plant in Sunderland – has now crossed the four million sales mark, a rare achievement for any car in history.
Massimiliano (Max) Messina, Chairperson for Nissan’s Africa, Middle East, India, Europe and Oceania (AMIEO) region said: “Reaching four million happy customers across Europe is an incredible milestone for Qashqai and reflects the innovation, dedication and craftsmanship of our design, engineering, and manufacturing teams, as well as the trust and loyalty that our customers have placed in the vehicle.
“Over the years, Qashqai has continuously evolved to meet the changing needs of drivers and families across Europe. This achievement is not just about sales.
“There are over four million customers choosing Qashqai and enjoying the confidence, comfort, and technology it brings to their everyday lives.
“We remain committed to developing technologies that make driving experience safer, easier and more enjoyable for all.”
